Traditional Dress of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu, located in the southernmost part of India, is  famed for its rich culture and tradition. One of the most striking aspects of the state's culture is its traditional dress, which has its roots in the ancient  history and continues to be worn with pride by the people of Tamil Nadu  moment. 

  For men, the traditional dress of Tamil Nadu is known as the veshti or dhoti. The veshti is a long piece of cloth that's wrapped around the  midriff and legs. It's  generally made of cotton or silk and is worn with a white or cream colored shirt, known as angavastram. The veshti is worn in different styles, depending on the occasion and the  existent's  particular preference. 

The veshti is worn by men of all  periods and is considered as a symbol of respectability and maturity. It's  generally worn with a shirt known as the Angavastram, which is a white or cream- colored blockish cloth. This combination of veshti and angavastram is known as veshti angavastram. The veshti-angavastram is  generally worn on special occasions  similar as  marriages, religious  observances, and carnivals. It's also the traditional  vesture for formal and semi-formal occasions.   

The traditional way of wearing the veshti is known as the Madisar style. In this style veshti is folded and  put away in a specific way to form a  circle at the front and is  also  put away into the band. This style is  generally worn by aged men, while the  youngish generation tends to prefer the mundu  style, which is a more  ultramodern and casual way of wearing the veshti. In the mundu style, the veshti is simply wrapped around the  midriff and legs and  put away into the band.

 For women, the traditional dress of Tamil Nadu is known as the saree or mundu and blouse. The saree is a long piece of cloth,  generally made of silk or cotton, that's wrapped around the body and worn with a blouse and petticoat. The saree is draped in different styles similar as the Madisar style and Pudavai style. The Madisar style is the traditional way of wearing the saree and is  generally worn by aged women, while the  youngish generation tends to prefer the Pudavai style, which is a more  ultramodern and casual way of wearing the saree. The Madisar style involves draping the saree over the shoulder and  put away it into the band, whereas the Pudavai style involves  put away the saree into the band and leaving the Pallu( the part of saree that drapes over the shoulder) hanging loose.

   

The mundu is a long piece of cloth,  analogous to veshti, but mundu can be worn by women too, which is worn in Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu, which is draped in different styles,  similar as the traditional Kodagu style and Onnara style. The saree and mundu are  frequently decorated with a variety of intricate designs,  similar as Saree work, embroidery, and prints. 

In terms of jewelry, Tamil Nadu has a rich tradition of gold and  tableware jewelry. The women of Tamil Nadu  generally wear a lot of jewelry, including earrings,  lavalieres , chokers, and  irons. The traditional gold jewelry of Tamil Nadu is known for its intricate and delicate designs, and is  frequently speckled with precious and semi-precious  monuments. One of the most popular forms of traditional gold jewelry in Tamil Nadu is the  tabernacle jewelry, which is characterized by its detailed and intricate designs and is considered as a status symbol.  

 Another important aspect of traditional dress in Tamil Nadu is the use of traditional fabrics. Cotton and silk are the two main fabrics that are used in traditional Tamil Nadu dress. Cotton is a traditional fabric that's used to make the veshti and the saree, while silk is used to make  further formal and luxurious garments. The traditional silk saree of Tamil Nadu,  Kanjeevaram and Kanchipuram saree are known for their intricate saree work, rich colors, and  dateless designs.  Incipiently, it's also worth mentioning that Tamil Nadu's traditional dress also varies among different communities and  gentries, for  illustration the Marwaris, Chettiars and so on. They've their own traditional  vesture and ways of draping it.
